The Union took pole position at the 2008 Roses Awards, the Manchester-based advertising competition for UK regional agencies. By winning 7 Golds, 4 Silvers and 1 Bronze, together with the Chairman’s Award and the Client of the Year, the agency dominated proceedings on the evening and demonstrated an unmatched depth and breadth of creative output. The agency won awards for a range of clients, including ProjectScotland, Historic Scotland, Yorkshire ASH and Baxters Food Group. This included picking up awards for Best Press, Best Radio, Best Cinema, Best Online, Best Ambient and Best Integrated Campaign. These 14 Roses follow a total of 35 Roses awarded to the Union in the last three years, which demonstrates the agency’s consistency of creative product. Don Smith, Deputy Creative Director at The Union, who was responsible of much of the winning work, said, “Winning is nice. It’s a boost for the agency and for our clients and it shows that our work has reached a quality threshold at a national level. But there’s no let up. These awards are now history. Today we start again, going for the same quality next year.” Clive Goldstein, Managing Director of The Union in Leeds, said, “This demonstrates what The Union is capable of, when we’re up against some of the toughest competition in the UK. This year a huge number of regional agencies were competing and I’m delighted that we are able to be up there with the best.”
