I grew up envisaging a glamourous career as a designer / artist / illustrator (insert any other creative talent I naively believed I had). When it dawned on me that a creative career was not in the pipeline, I embraced languages. I moved briefly to Spain and returned to study Spanish and International Business. But languages didn’t come so naturally either.
Then an ad man came to University one day – he talked about ‘suits’. Sandwiched right between the creative geniuses in an ad agency, and the mightily important clients – I was suddenly in awe of a role where I could hone my business skills, but still play a part in bringing ground-breaking ideas to life.
I graduated with a 1st in Marketing and Management, joined The Union in 2005 and followed a linear career path to Group Account Director – winning The Marketing Society’s Agency Star Award along the way.
I’ve worked with (and learnt so much from doing so) some of Scotland’s biggest brands and organisations – ScotRail, Daily Record, Historic Environment Scotland, The Scottish Government, Miller Homes, Sterling Furniture, The National Trust for Scotland, NHS Scotland, The Scottish Parliament, Lothian Buses…and so on. A true privilege.
It’s never been a job – it’s doing what I love.
