The opportunity:
A UX Designer ensures that people using a service can do what they need to do, when they need to do it, in a way that is easy for them. You’ll play a vital role in the entire design process, from user research and information architecture to prototyping and user testing. You’ll collaborate closely with researchers, designers, developers, project managers, and clients to deliver user-centred solutions that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally sound.
You’ll come to Union with strong UX design skills and some experience in advising client on how to design user-centred services. In return, we’ll provide exciting opportunities to develop further within your profession.
Your role:
- Advocate for the users at all times, helping the team and clients stay focussed on meeting user needs whilst helping them achieve their business goals.
- Run and facilitate workshops to present solutions and design concepts.
- Conduct user research (surveys, interviews, usability testing) to understand user needs and pain points.
- Develop user personas, user stories, journey maps, information architecture and user flows to inform the design process.
- Design sketches and wireframes to inform the design of digital products/services, based on user needs and business requirements.
- Collaborate with UI designers to create a cohesive and user-friendly interface.
- Conduct usability testing and iterate on designs based on user feedback.
- Work collaboratively within a fast-paced and dynamic team environment.
- Performing web accessibility audits in line with WCAG standards and making recommendations to ensure that digital outputs are accessible and usable to all.
- Take part in review sessions to discuss how a project has gone.
- Support the other UX Designers and advise other colleagues on how to get the best from UX design.
- Promote the value of UX design internally to stakeholders and externally to clients.
- Contribute to the growth of the Digital team’s design maturity by implementing best practices and fostering a UX-centric culture.
You will not be required to carry out UI Design tasks as we have a separate Design team.
The ideal change-maker:
- Minimum 2+ years of experience as a UX Designer or similar role.
- A solid understanding of user-centred design principles and best practices.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a user-centred design process and successful UX projects.
- A solid understanding of user-centred design principles and best practices.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary agile teams to design and deliver people-centred services.
- Great consultancy skills, caring about your client’s needs and motivations
- Excellent collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with in-house designers, front-end and systems developers, and to translate complex ideas for non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to conduct user research and translate findings into actionable insights.
- Proficiency in UX design tools, for example, Figma and Adobe XD.
- Self-starter and self-learner, keen to acquire and share knowledge and skills, and stay up to date with the latest techniques and thinking in UX.
- Passion for design and a strong desire to create positive user experiences.
- Enjoying being in the office, we are flexible but we are looking for someone that can commit to being around their colleagues at least 2/3 days a week.
Bonus points:
- Experience in working on the agency side.
- Experience working with quantitative and qualitative tools to evaluate the success of digital products/services, and the ability to make recommendations based on that analysis.
- Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Experience with user experience (UX) writing.
