Buccleuch Brand Development
The Union was briefed after a competitive review to develop the branding, websites and communications for the Duke of Buccleuch’s visitor attractions. The Duke’s historic homes at Drumlanrig, Bowhill and Dalkeith in Scotland, and Boughton in England, required a consistent yet individual presentation. The brief required the agency to respect and understand the historic context of each place, and yet present the attractions in a contemporary and aesthetically pleasing way.
The agency’s solution was to base each identity on the iconography and history of each of the attractions. For Drumlanrig, the winged heart symbolic of the story of Robert the Bruce’s heart; Bowhill, the original Duke of Buccleuch and Clan Scott identity; Dalkeith, the triangulation of the palace, church and bridge in the country park; and for magnificent Boughton, the Montagu family coat of arms.
Once the core identities were agreed, after extensive stakeholder consultation, The Union rolled these out across all communications and developed attractive and content-rich websites for public promotion. Special photography was also briefed by the agency; to show off the impressive buildings, architecture, art and countryside through all seasons.
